Makers Market and CHTV

So… this morning my Hamilton landscape photography was shown on CHTV’s morning show!  In 2011 I sold my very first art print (kinda by accident) and couldn’t then imagine that some day I would showcase my work on television.  I am thrilled to be part of the Maker’s Market again this season and will be at the Cathedral on Dec 7th with Randell Neudorf.  We’ll have Ivor Wynne shirts available as well as prints and photography session gift certificates.  Stop by next Saturday and check out all the local, Hamilton vendors!

Focus

The past few days have been a bit of a challenge for me… I always get a little down in November and this year with the roof leaking, the car needing fixing, a sad farewell to an allergy inducing kitten, and general tightness of finances, I’ve been a wee bit stressed.  OK.  At times, I’ve been a downright miserable weepy mess.  But today is a new day.  I love that every day is a chance to start over, refresh and renew.  Today, I take stock of all that I am grateful for:

  • For honest roofers who tell me that my roof that does not, in fact, need new shingles.  Just a repair that a gracious friend will be doing for me.
  • Shooting a new art installation tonight, and two family shoots tomorrow.
  • A car that runs better today than it did yesterday (even though I had to pay for that!)
  • Being inspired by friends who are starting a new business with women in Uganda.  I get to host the Hamilton home party of  JustOne  and showcase these gorgeous, unique pieces at my place on November 29th.  So proud of Sarah and Krista for doing this, and I’m so happy to help in any way I can.  The stories of the women that you are partnering with remind me of just how good I’ve got it, and help bring into focus what is truly important.

SuperCrawl

It’s a big weekend for downtown Hamilton – SUPERCRAWL is upon us!  It’s going to be a crazy weekend filled with art, music, and crowds of people wandering James St.  I can’t wait!  I am very excited to be a part of this year’s crawl.  Having a booth at the Maker’s Market allows me the opportunity to chat with so many Hamiltonians about 2 things I am passionate about.  Hamilton and Birth Photography.  I hope to be able to engage people in conversations around birth and to get the word out there about this photography service that is available.  I’m also going to be selling some Hamilton posters that highlight some of my favourite images in Hamilton.  So, come on down and visit the Maker’s Market!  Oh, and if you’re going… don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item!

Babies R Us

This weekend is the beginning of BabyFest at Toys R Us…and guess who is going to be there?  Yep.  That’s right interwebs, I am attending my fist ever festival of babies 🙂   We are having a draw for prizes and everything!  I am so looking forward to the opportunity to engage people in conversation about Birth Photography and de-bunk some of the misconceptions around it.  Of course, I am hopeful that there might be some prospective clients in the mix, but mostly I am looking at this as an opportunity to create awareness about the availability of this kind of photography and how it can be built into family memories.  I love capturing the images, but I also love being able to show women themselves in their natural, powerful state while birthing. So, if you’re around and needing to stock up on all things baby, come visit Toys R Us on Upper Wentworth.

Fireworks!

Spent last evening down at the Hamilton Pier 4 Park sharing a picnic with the folks from The Commons for Canada Day. We chose to  eat when it was the most blustery, which made for some mad dashes before the geese caught our plates!  After some sammies at the picnic, we partook of some delicious smores and took in the fireworks – always a treat.  Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day!

Today I thought I would take stock of one of the things that I am thankful for – my home.  I am seeing it with new eyes and am just loving the old character details that, while not perfect, give the place a personality and charm. I kind of like the old scratches and worn out bits.  Tells the tale of a life well lived.  And yes.  Those are hockey sticks.  They are part of my Gretzky glider chair that I picked up a few years ago. What are you thankful for on this Canada Day long weekend?

Beasley BBQ

I ventured out today under this hot, hot sun to snap some pics over at the annual Beasley BBQ fun day.  I love it!  The tradition of music, skateboarding, hotdogs, face painting and neighbours having fun together in the downtown park continues!  It did my heart good to see the summer light shine out over of all of the kids and adults there.  It was great to see so many volunteers serving up the food, taking surveys and generally making all the kids happy with cotton candy and face painting.  Hamilton really is such a great community.  And now, to rehydrate!!

Doors Open Hamilton

Today was Doors Open  –  the day when you get to peek inside of that building you were always curious about but wouldn’t normally go inside.  Who knew there was such beauty hidden behind the doors of the Orthodox Serbian Church on Barton St E?  The exterior is pretty non-desrcript, but once you enter their worship space – wow.  Icons, murals and wood carvings adorn every space.  The scent of incense was fragrant in the air and added to the sense of sacredness that permeated the sanctuary.  It was amazing to see the  two huge, beautiful chandeliers and hear the story of how the icons came to be painted on every square inch of wall in the space over 4 years.  Whenever I travel, I always love to stop in at old churches to feel their history and sacred space-ness.  But there are so many right here at home too!  I love this city and all the hidden gems that are right in the heart of it.  I can’t wait ’til next time Doors Open comes around to discover some more treasures of Hamilton.

Art Crawl

Thanks to everyone who stopped by during Art Crawl on James St N last night!  It was such a beautiful night outside made even more gorgeous by the thousands of people on the street out there supporting the arts.  Many new friends were made as we chatted about images (mostly the 2 below) and our love for Hamilton.  I <3  Art Crawl.  Can’t wait for next month!
